What is the Name of my PC?

Sometimes one of us in the IT Department will need to connect to your PC remotely in order to provide support by logging into your system as an administrator. In order to do that, we will need to know the name of your PC so that we can find it on the network. This requires work on your part, but finding this information is a very short and very simple process.

  1. Open the System Properties dialog box by holding down the Windows Logo key (between the Ctrl and Alt keys) on your keyboard and pressing the Pause/Break key (above the numeric keypad on the right side).

  2. Once the System Properties window has opened, click on the Computer Name tab.

  3. On the Computer Name tab, note the name of your computer and record it. The full name of your computer includes the network domain name (, but we will require only the first part of the name (the part before the We will request this information either via e-mail or by phone.
